EVERYTHING CAME UP ROSÉ! 🌸💖🥂🌤️🌸💖 “I’ve never had such a range of flavours in rosé before” … Yeyyyy!!! Just what I wanted guests to be saying after our evening of late summer vibes, liquified by a line up of classic and different styles of the pink drink!
And proof of what a warm, convivial evening it was came in physical form as some folks stayed outside in the Somerset twilight – then dark – chatting about flavour profiles, and just chatting, til 10pm! Others gathered more cosily indoors doing the same. Everyone enjoying fabulous canapés, some made with home grown figs (on a crispy herb bruschetta base topped with a slice of pecorino … yum!) from my co-host’s garden. Just gorgeous!
Top wines?
The juicy, dry cava that sparked the evening into life was a favourite. I was very excited by this one, made 100% from the local Trepat variety (understandably gaining popularity as a rosé sparkler!) by historic cooperative Castell d’Or, £17.25. All pink grapefruit, strawberry, gentle fizz, and with a soft roundness in the mouth coming from over 12 months ageing after second fermentation. I could happily have drunk that all night – and I wasn’t alone!
The other standout was a surprise to many … not least as it was dark raspberry – even in the gloaming!! An Italian rosé from Sicily, Regaleali Le Rose. Again made with a local variety, this time Nerello Mascalese and by the fabulous Tasca d’Almerita winery, also £17.25 . It simply had a mouth-filling gorgeousness … watermelon, raspberry. all rich and juicy, then a sort of burnt herbs or “caramel” finish, as one Giggler said! Outstanding with ‘dessert’ – another of my co-hosts’ epic canapés; half a strawberry sandwiched onto a baby meringue with cream and plum jam! Yum again!!!
Such a lovely evening. I’m smiling as I write this. Massive thanks to the Rosé Revellers and my outstanding co-host Caroline Villamizar for opening her home, hearth and heart to us all!
