Let's start...

Building wine knowledge

Break through wine jargon and pomp to learn why you – or your customers – like what they like, what else is out there and what food goes best with what wines.

My sweet spot is learning that you can use every day; building on a previous life in training, development and coaching for household names [see About to know more] and my two-year Diploma course with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust.

    For wine lovers...

and the wine curious, who want to know more.

People often say to me “I’m no expert – but I know what I like.” This is the perfect place to start learning more about wine.

We’ll taste our way around the main grape varieties, wine producing countries and techniques.

Then we’ll have fun with the what and why – and why not of wine pairing.

    For hospitality companies...

like pubs, restaurants and hotels, who want their front of house staff to talk knowledgably and confidently with customers about wine.

Specifically; talking easily what wine they like (and dislike), exploring the wine list with customers, and discussing how the wines pair with food from the menu and why.

Outcomes include; more engaged staff, improved customer experience and increased sales.

Pairing passion with knowledge

Training for wine lovers

Typical sessions start with a welcome tipple, then explore…

  • What the most popular white and red grapes taste like
  • How the way the wine was made influences how it tastes
  • What food goes best with each wine and why
ella likes the look of this red wine

Squeeze the grape

I also run sessions squeezing the grape on specific varieties; like Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir and different styles of wine; like ‘big reds’ and sparkling wines which are a particular passion!

And on particular regions/ countries; Spain beyond Rioja, aiming high in Argentina and Chile.

We’ll explore and taste our way around the world. Different climates and soils make a massive difference to how grapes grow, and therefore how wines taste, let alone what the winemaker chooses to do once they get their hands on them.

  • hospitality staff enjoying wine training course from giggling grape
  • Why do the training?

    • Wine suppliers often carry out tastings with the FOH staff which are really good fun, but are usually a one-way ‘broadcast’ of information, with relatively little being retained and used with customers to encourage more adventurous decisions that also pair better with the menu.
  • sommelier training for hospitality staff in somerset
  • What the training covers

For key wines on your list, through practice sessions staff learn…
